Zelensky announces dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called snap parliamentary elections during his inauguration ceremony in the Verkhovna Rada.

He also urged the MPs to pass bills on the lifting of parliamentary immunity, imposing criminal liability for illegal enrichment, adopting an electoral code and legitimizing open lists at elections.

In addition, Zelensky urged to dismiss the heads of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Defense from office.

“You have two months to do this. I dissolve the Verkhovna Rada of the eighth convocation,” Zelensky said.
