Switzerland is the most likely venue for a potential summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden in June, Russia's Kommersant newspaper reported on Monday, citing government sources.
It's worth noting that President of the United States Joe Biden has earlier said he would like to hold talks with Putin during a planned trip to Europe next month. The Kremlin said it was looking into the possibility of holding the summit.
Importantly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken are due to hold talks later this week in Iceland, the highest-level talks between Moscow and Washington since Biden took office.
It is expected that the preparations of the Biden-Putin summit would be discussed during the meeting of Lavrov and Blinken. The decision will largely depend on the meeting, but the most likely venue for presidential summit is Switzerland, Kommersant reported.
Biden proposed to hold talks with Putin on June 15-16 in a European country. The Kremlin is ready to consider the proposed dates, but Russia has not yet given the White House its unequivocal consent.
