The EU Council has approved the transfer of profits received from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine. This year, the amount may reach €3 billion.
This was announced by Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky.
According to him, this year the amount could be up to CZK 74 billion (about €2.8 billion), 90% of which will be used for military support for Ukraine.
"We have approved in the EU the use of proceeds from the frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank to help Ukraine. Up to €3 billion this year alone, 90% will go to the Ukrainian army. Russia has to compensate for the damage caused by the war," he wrote on the X network.
Earlier, the decision was agreed upon by EU Ambassadors. The European Council must finally approve it. The Foreign Affairs Council, which is composed of the foreign ministers from all EU member states, is meeting today.
