About space, critical infrastructure and more: Ukraine signed five agreements with the EU

Ukraine and the European Union have signed five agreements in various areas, including support for critical infrastructure and participation in joint space programs.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this, writes "Suspilne".

As the head of government noted, this involves the signing of three important financial agreements with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support the country's critical infrastructure with financing of 300 million euros:

  • water supply and drainage;
  • Ukraine Recovery Program III;
  • centralized heating.

The relevant agreements are designed to provide hundreds of millions of euros for recovery, modernization and resilience.

Also, within the framework of the medical agreement, it is planned to join the Agreement on Joint Procurement of Medical Protective Equipment, the form of which was approved by the European Commission in the spring of 2014. The mechanism will allow participating countries to pool their needs for the procurement of medicines and vaccines.

Regarding the agreement on Ukraine's participation in EU space programs, the document defines the conditions and principles of Ukraine's participation in individual components of the European Union Space Program. It provides for Ukraine's association with parts of the program:

  • Copernicus is an Earth observation program that provides satellite data for environmental monitoring, climate change, emergency management, etc.
  • Space Weather Events (SWE) is the analysis of phenomena in the space environment that can affect satellites, power systems, and communications.
  • Near-Earth Objects (NEO) – tracking asteroids and other objects that may pose a threat to planet Earth.

We previously wrote that Ukraine has created a Space Policy Office, designed to unite state and private companies and space scientists for cooperation with the Ukrainian military.
