United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has threatened Ukraine with tougher peace terms from Russia in the future if peace talks break down.
He announced this on the air to the media.
He noted that since the Ukrainian army does not have enough forces to push the Russian army back to the 2014 borders, and Russia does not plan to seize all of Ukraine, it is better to agree to peace now. Postponing this issue will risk tougher conditions from the Russian Federation.
"There is no military solution to the war. Russia is not going to seize all of Ukraine, and Ukraine will not be able to push the Russians back from their pre-2014 positions. If the US-led negotiations fail, Ukraine may receive tougher peace terms from Russia in the future," he said.
Rubio added that the United States has become much better at understanding the Russian side's position on Ukraine.
"I would say we are trying to understand what Russia's position is. We understand it better now because we have actually spoken to them after three years of silence," he added.
As Apostrophe reported, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously stressed that if the war in Ukraine cannot be stopped, the United States should abandon its efforts and move on.
As is known, on April 23, negotiations between representatives of Western governments on a peaceful settlement are taking place in the British capital.
