Zelensky wrote a sad post on the PACE decision regarding Russia

On Tuesday, June 25, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the decision to return Russia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) without any voting restrictions.

The President wrote an according post on his Facebook page.

According to Zelensky, he is disappointed by the organization’s decision.

“Last week I personally discussed this with the President of France and the Chancellor of Germany. I tried to convince Mr. Macron and Mrs. Merkel that Russia’s return to PACE is possible only after Russia fulfills the Assembly’s fundamental requirements. It is unfortunate that our European partners did not hear us and acted otherwise,” the President noted.

At the same time, Zelensky thanked the Ukrainian delegation and Ukraine’s partners in PACE for the common effort. He stressed that he’d like to see the supporters of Russia’s return demanding the return of Ukrainian sailors.

As “Apostrophe” reported earlier, Chairperson of the Committee on Rules of Procedure Petra De Sutter stated that the decision to change the rules and invite Russian representatives to return to PACE is a step closer to breaking the deadlock.

On June 25, President of the Parliamentary Assembly Liliane Maury Pasquier stated that the necessary majority had challenged the return of Russia to PACE without restricting the right to vote.
