On Thursday, May 6, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken supported Ukraine's aspirations to receive the NATO Membership Action Plan (AP), the head of the Presidential Office Andriii Yermak said in a comment to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
"Today we have received another confirmation of full support for Ukraine's possible receipt of the Action Plan on NATO membership. It is worth noting, that the North Atlantic Alliance has many other members except the United States, therefore the work is going on. The U.S. is our strategic partner and fully supports our integration with NATO," Yermak said.
However, at the same time, the head of the President's Office said that there is no confirmation of Zelensky's participation in the NATO summit in Brussels on June 14 yet.
In addition, the parties discussed the issue of countering the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project, which is very sensitive for Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelensky noted the common position with the United States on this issue and thanked the American side for the strong sanctions policy as regards this project.
For his part, Antony Blinken reaffirmed the United States' unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said that during his visit to Kyiv he honored the memory of those who gave their lives defending Ukrainian democracy.
The Head of the President's Office also added that the parties discussed issues of strengthening cooperation in the Black Sea.
"This issue has been discussed again and again. We consider various forms of our cooperation, in particular in geopolitical and military spheres. Specific details may become known to the public, I hope, soon," Yermak concluded.
