Russia has taken a step toward the recognition of the so-called DPR and LPR

Deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation voted for the draft appeal to the Russian President for LPR and DPR recognition.

This is reported by the press service of the State Duma.

It is reported that 361 deputies of the lower house of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation voted in favor of the draft resolution “On the appeal of the State Duma to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the need to recognize the Donetsk People's Republic and the Lugansk People's Republic”.

Members of the State Duma at the plenary session supported the decision to appeal to the President to consider the issue of recognizing the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic as sovereign and independent states,” Vyacheslav Volodin posted on his Telegram channel.

He emphasized that Kyiv “does not fulfill the Minsk agreements”. “Our citizens and compatriots living in the Donbas need our help and support. In this regard, members of the State Duma are convinced that the recognition of the DPR and LPR will provide foundations for enhancing security and protecting people living in the republics from external threats, as well as for strengthening international peace and regional stability in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and will begin the process of international recognition of both states,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.

Members of the State Duma recalled that people of the DPR and LPR had been living in the line of fire for eight years, millions of people had become refugees, while the Ukrainian authorities had stopped paying pensions and social benefits and had imposed a complete economic blockade of the population and companies of the two republics.

The actions of the Ukrainian authorities can be considered as the genocide of their own people,” the document emphasizes.

The State Duma expresses its unequivocal and consolidated support for the adequate humanitarian measures aimed at providing support to residents of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine who have expressed a desire to speak and write in the Russian language, who want freedom of religion to be respected, and who do not support the actions of the Ukrainian authorities violating their rights and freedoms,” the appeal says.

Members of the State Duma are convinced that the recognition of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republic will provide foundations for enhancing security and protecting people living in the republics from external threats, as well as for strengthening international peace and regional stability in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and will begin the process of international recognition of both states

Members of the State Duma consider the recognition of the Donetsk People's Republic and the Lugansk People's Republic reasonable and morally justified. Democratic authorities and states with all the attributes of legitimate power have been established in the republics over the past years on the basis of the will of the people,” the appeal says.

The decision on recognition of Russia-backed breakaway republics is now up to the President of the Russian Federation.
