The European Union should think about accumulating funds to purchase weapons for Ukraine on the world market, or rather in third countries.
This was stated by Andrius Kubilius, Member of the European Parliament from Lithuania (MEP), former Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, in a commentary to Guildhall.
"For Ukrainians, it makes no difference where weapons are produced - in the United States, the EU, or anywhere else. We need to have the money to buy it (weapons)... I can understand some politicians in Europe who believe that we need to use the money, allocated for military support to Ukraine, to develop our (European) military industry. In the long term, this is fine, but when there is a lack of artillery and ammunition on the front line at the moment, you cannot tell Ukrainians: wait a little longer, we will supply you with ammunition next year," the European diplomat said.
According to him, the EU should also formulate a certain model of Ukraine's victory over the Russian aggressor: "We must have a plan... Then we (the EU) may be able to use the money allocated to buy equipment in other markets, start investing even more in our or Ukrainian military industry."
Earlier, Andrius Kubilius said that Ukraine's victory plan should include a detailed schedule for the production and supply of weapons to Ukraine and a "continuous flow of funding."
