Russia has prepared a springboard for an offensive from Belarus: should we expect a new invasion from the north

While self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is talking about war with Ukraine again, pointing to the powerful fortifications of the Ukrainian border, Russia may use Belarus as a springboard for a possible offensive.

Andriy Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, told Apostrophe TV about this and the situation on the border.

He emphasized that the situation on the border with Belarus remains under control, and Russia has withdrawn its troops from there to redeploy them to other parts of the front:

"The situation on the border with Belarus is under control and we do not currently observe any threats from that direction. Russia has withdrawn its troops from there to strengthen the occupation contingent operating in Ukraine, and the occupiers did not bring new units to Belarus."

Demchenko points out that the enemy has left some support staff there, responsible for repairing equipment and solving logistical issues, "...but they do not pose a threat to us."

"We are closely monitoring the situation in Belarus, the intelligence agencies of the State Border Guard Service are working," the SBGS Spokesperson said, commenting that Belarus is being used by the aggressor country as a springboard: "We understand that Belarus is being used by the occupying country as a springboard for a possible offensive into the territory of Ukraine".

With this in mind, Demchenko points out the importance of preparations and additional strengthening of the border: "...that's why we are preparing, strengthening the border and dealing with fortifications, in particular, to effectively repel any attack."

Earlier, we reported on the evacuation of families with children announced in the Kharkiv Region bordering Russia.
