The Russians are intensifying their attacks on Ukrainian airfields, which may be used to deploy American F-16 fighters in the future.
Reuters writes about this.
In particular, the publication cites constant Russian attacks on the airfield in Starokostiantyniv, Khmelnytsky Region, as an example. The Russians are likely targeting the airbase's infrastructure, such as runways and storage facilities, to make it harder for the F-16s to get into the air when they arrive.
"Officials have not revealed where the F-16s will be based, but Moscow said after the strike on Starokostiantyniv last Thursday that it had targeted airfields it believed would house them," the newspaper said.
Earlier, the Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren said that the first deliveries of F-16 jets to Ukraine should take place this summer.
