The National Security and Defense Council responded to statements by Russian military officials about an alleged offensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the border with the Belgorod region of Russia.
The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Kovalenko, believes that it is now very profitable for the Russians to escalate the situation before the conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, accusing Ukraine of unwillingness to end the war.
"They came up with it themselves, they won themselves, it often happens with Russians," Kovalenko commented.
According to him, fighting in the border area continues almost constantly throughout the large-scale war, both due to the activity of enemy artillery from the Belgorod region, and artillery duels due to the activity of their artillery on the territory of Ukraine.
"The fact that it is now very profitable for the Russians to incite violence before Trump's conversation with Putin is not surprising. Their main information strategy is to accuse Ukraine of unwillingness to end the war, although in reality they are attacking from the front, as well as from the air. And it is Putin who is delaying Trump's proposal to cease fire. Everything is very primitive, but quite typical of the Russians," Kovalenko summed up.
Let us remind you that, according to information distributed on Russian channels, on the night of March 18, the Ukrainian military began to pull equipment and personnel to the section of the border where the Belgorod and Kursk regions meet.
Earlier, the NYT revealed details of what to expect for Ukraine after Trump's talks with Putin.
