For the first time in Ukraine, a serviceman of the Armed Forces has been punished for sexual harassment. The maximum punishment for such a crime in the army is a reprimand.
This was announced by the gender advisor to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oksana Hryhoryeva, during a forum on gender equality in defense, writes "Slidstvo.Info".
This is the story of Oksana, a military medic who last summer contacted the editorial office of the publication with complaints about sexual harassment by a colleague during combat coordination and pressure from the command. She had video evidence of one of the soldiers trying to force her into sexual contact.
Grigoryeva expressed her gratitude to the journalists for covering this unpleasant story.
"When Oksana called the hotline, I contacted her on the same day and undertook to initiate an investigation in accordance with current legislation... For the first time in history, and not only in the Land Forces, but in Ukraine, we punished the perpetrator for sexual harassment," she said.
At the same time, the official believes that the media's publication of the event was incorrect "from the point of view of information hygiene," since Russian propagandists immediately took advantage of this to characterize the Ukrainian army in a negative light based on this example.
"I had an ambiguous reaction to the publicity of all this. Nachmed, who was Oksana's immediate superior, brought journalists to the hospital and she gave this interview. On the one hand, the hate that took place - there was a lot of condemnation, both of Oksana herself from those videos published, and condemnation of the fact that everyone in the army is raped here and Russian publics used it. From the point of view of information hygiene, it was wrong, I told journalists about it," she explained.
In such cases, the perpetrators face the greatest punishment in the form of a reprimand, so, at the request of the councilor, the perpetrator was sent to carry out a combat mission in the hottest Pokrovsky direction, and the victim was transferred to another military unit.
