The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General Valery Gerasimov, reported to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin that they had allegedly managed to establish control over "over 99% of the territory" captured by Ukraine in the Kursk region.

Gerasimov stated that the part where the Ukrainian military entered, starting in August 2024, has actually been liberated.
"In the areas of Kursk Oblast where the Armed Forces of Ukraine invaded, the main part of the territory... is now liberated," he said.
According to him, it is about 1,260 square kilometers, 99.5%.
Ukrainian forces control two more areas. Fighting continues in the areas of Oleshnya and Hornal, which are directly near the border with Ukraine.
