Ukrainian soldier Denys Melnychuk (call sign "Mel") went alone to clear the landing site near Siversk and captured six Russian attack aircraft.
The soldier told the story of his feat to journalist Yuri Butusov .
A 27-year-old scout from the "Force of Freedom" battalion of the 4th Brigade of the National Guard "Rubizh" with four years of combat experience revealed the details of how one of them attacked a group of Russian infantrymen and stormed a dugout.
"First, someone had to go to the clearing. It was lightning fast. They told us that the enemies had fled there, and you, they say, were there, so go and throw a couple of grenades. In general, "in character" I just climbed up and threw and ran sharply to the other side. I guarantee that the occupiers were distracted by the fact that shelling was taking place from one side, literally a few seconds later I ran to the other entrance and started practicing from other angles. They tried to simulate the fact that they had two entrances and they had nowhere to go. Plus, I know what shelling and "reset" on the head are, and there I threw about eight into the passages, that is, I don't think the enemy's morale was at its peak, after he was gaping half a meter from them," the soldier shared.
And he added that there was no goal as such to take the invaders prisoner. It was necessary to neutralize them.
"According to their version, they themselves offered to surrender. They heard me say 5 or 6 times. I was about to go get grenades again when I heard them shouting: "We surrender." I asked how many there were, they said there were six. I went to the authorities with half a heartache, because the first question in my mind was: where will we put them, we don't have that much space. There was no thought of finishing them off, because prisoners are prisoners and they need to be taken," "Mel" noted.
However, the soldier had a dilemma about what to do with the prisoners.
"Then I figured: let them come out two by two, with their backs to me. One of the two came out and the most interesting thing was, I shouted at them in Russian, they answered me in Ukrainian, shouting something about the Poles... The third two had already come out and said that they were wounded. And this is how I understood it: it didn't happen as a result of my actions, but they had received it beforehand. I disarmed them. And they weren't surprised that I was alone, everything suited them - they were simply ready to do anything to get out of there," Melnychuk said.
By the way, the captured Chinese citizens Wang Guangjun and Zhang Renbo are not affiliated with the official Chinese authorities . According to them, they joined the ranks of the Russian army of their own free will.
