On the occasion of the birthday of the first female Prime Minister of Israel, Golda Meir, a native of Kyiv, and the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, recalled her words, which are also relevant for Ukraine.
He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
He noted that this is a phrase by one of the most famous natives of the capital of Ukraine, dedicated to the Israeli people: "We want to live. Our neighbors want us to disappear."
"These words are also relevant for Ukraine. Golda's path is a path of determination, devotion to the people, and incredible willpower. In the most difficult times, she did not break - and became a symbol of strength. We remember," Yermak said.
As is known, Golda Meir was born on May 3, 1898 in Kiev, into a poor Jewish family. Her father was a carpenter, her mother worked as a wet nurse. In 1903, Golda's parents moved to the United States, where she graduated from school and entered a teacher's college. In 1921, she moved to Palestine with her husband Morris Meyerson.
She became one of the closest associates of the leader of the Zionist movement and founder of the State of Israel, David Ben-Gurion. At his request, she changed her surname from Meyerson to Meir.
On March 17, 1969, she became Prime Minister of Israel. 70-year-old Golda Meir led the government between two armed conflicts - the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War.
As Apostrophe reported, Israeli military analyst Yigal Levin quoted Golda Meir : "If the Arabs lay down their arms, there will be no more war. If the Jews lay down their arms, there will be no more Israel."
