On the night of March 20, drones attacked the Engels-2 military airfield in the Saratov region, which is a key facility for deploying strategic bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
Local media reports that residents of houses located near the air base may be evacuated.
Residents of the city of Engels reported seeing thick smoke in the "3rd Flight Town" neighborhood after a series of drone strikes. The area is about 10 kilometers from a military airfield. Explosions during the drone attack were also heard by residents of Saratov.
In response to the incident, Rosaviatsia temporarily suspended operations at airports in Saratov and Samara.
Ukrainian intelligence analysts, relying on geolocation data, report that the main target of the attack was military warehouses.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that air defense forces shot down 54 drones over the Saratov region and a total of 132 over Russian territory.
Recall that earlier strikes on the airfield in Engels and the Saratov oil refinery were carried out on the night of February 11 .
