In Germany, as part of cooperation with Ukrainian police, one of the most influential representatives of the Russian-speaking criminal world abroad - "thief in law" Revaz Katamadze, nicknamed Magalo, was arrested.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
He is suspected of organizing the criminal activities of groups engaged in apartment burglaries in Germany, as well as laundering illegally obtained funds.
Ukrainian law enforcement officers have provided German colleagues with information about 51-year-old Magalo, who controlled criminal groups in the EU. On March 26, more than 1,000 German police officers, together with operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine, conducted a large-scale special operation in three federal states: Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Bavaria. During the searches, cash, weapons, mobile phones, and other evidence were seized.
Magalo was detained in the city of Essen. On March 27, the court chose a preventive measure - detention for three months. The criminal authority could face at least 5 years in prison.
This operation was made possible thanks to the effective exchange of information between the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police of Ukraine, the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany, and Europol.
Magalo was "crowned" in 2000 in Moscow and belongs to the Sukhumi thieves' clan. He is on the list of 557 "thieves in law" against whom the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has imposed sanctions.
