Former advisor to the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Pavlo Bulhak was struck by the cynicism of gymnast Ilya Kovtun, who decided to change his Ukrainian sports citizenship to Croatian.
Bulgak shared his outrage on his Facebook page.
The former official emphasized that, despite his young age, Kovtun's cynicism with such a decision knows no bounds.
"This is what worthlessness and baseness look like. Former Ukrainian Olympian Ilya Kovtun justified his decision to betray Ukraine, change citizenship, and start playing for Croatia by saying that his silver medal in artistic gymnastics at the 2024 Olympics was supposedly celebrated more in the Croatian city of Osijek than in Ukraine. At the same time, he admitted that he had not been to Ukraine for a single day since the beginning of the Great War. Not a single day!
Money from Ukrainian taxpayers as prize money, however, he didn't mind taking. And this is 100,000 US dollars for a minute, or over 4 million UAH. And this is not counting the salary in the national team, scholarships and other payments. The guy is only 21 years old, and his cynicism is already at level 100 - a clear contender for a gold medal in this type of "sport", - Bulgak noted.
As is known, the silver medalist of the 2024 Olympics in artistic gymnastics Ilya Kovtun, who decided to change his Ukrainian sports citizenship to Croatian, confirmed that he firmly stands by his decision to compete for Croatia in the future .
"Apostrophe" also wrote that the President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Vadym Gutzeit, reported on the punishment that may await the silver medalist of the 2024 Olympics in artistic gymnastics, Ilya Kovtun.
