Putin wants to break the spirit and plunge Ukrainians into darkness - what the White House calls for

Russia's recent attacks on Ukraine's energy sector show the importance of U.S. assistance. The Speaker of the House of Representatives should bring the issue to a vote.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said this at a briefing.

"Russia launched another large round of air assaults against Ukraine's energy grid, as Vladimir Putin continues to try to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people and plunge them into darkness. Russia struck the largest power plant in the Kyiv Region, as well as energy facilities in five other regions of Ukraine," Jean-Pierre said.

She reminded that Ukraine needs more air defense systems "to protect it's people and critical infrastructure against Russian missiles and Iranian supplied drones." Jean-Pierre emphasized that "The strikes in Ukraine over the past 24 hours are another terrible reminder that Ukraine's needs are critical" and once again called on House Speaker Mike Johnson to bring the bill to the floor "because we know we get overwhelming support from Republicans and Democrats obviously."

Earlier, Apostrophe reported that on April 11, Russia carried out a combined massive attack on Ukrainian cities.
