On May 26, explosions were heard in the Orenburg Region of the Russian Federation - drones flew 1800 km and attacked the Voronezh M long-range radar station. The GUR confirmed a new record for the range of destruction.
An official from the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR) spoke about this to Ukrayinska Pravda.
First, it is worth recalling how on May 26, Russian Telegram channels wrote about how one of the drones managed to fly and crash near Orsk in the Orenburg Region. At the time, it was reported that the UAV had crashed near the village of Gorkovskoye in the Novoorsky district, which is located near Orsk. Russian sources reminded that the Voronezh-M radar station has been operating there for several years (since 2016).
Ukrainian Telegram channels also wrote about the strike, noting that it was a new record distance for Ukrainian drones.
On May 27, the GUR confirmed the new record. A source from the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine indicated that on May 26, a GUR drone attacked the Voronezh M long-range target detection radar station in Orsk, Orenburg Region, and flew 1800 km:
"A Ukrainian drone flew more than 1,800 kilometers to the enemy's facility, setting a new record for the range of destruction for kamikaze drones."
Thus, Orsk, which is 140 kilometers further from the front line than the city of Salavat in Bashkortostan, which previously held the record for range, has set another new record.
It is worth recalling that Voronezh radars are part of the Russian system of warning of enemy nuclear missile launches. Voronezh-M is a new generation of high-readiness radar stations. The stations have the ability to detect objects at a distance of up to 6000 km. The consequences of the strike on the radar station are currently being clarified.
