On the morning of Friday, April 25, a car belonging to 58-year-old Deputy Chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the Russian General Staff, Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalyk, exploded in the Moscow Region. Moskalyk's death was confirmed by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

Russian media claim that he also participated, in particular, in negotiations on "conflict settlement" in southeastern Ukraine within the framework of the so-called Normandy format involving Russia and Ukraine in 2015. However, it is unknown whether he participated in the war in Ukraine.
The Agency revealed that in 2018 he participated in supervising the supply of phosphate ore by the Russian company Stroytransgaz from Syria. Moskalyk also regularly spoke at various international conferences, including the Moscow Conference on International Security, where he spoke about Syria.
In 2021, the military man received the rank of lieutenant general.
