The leader of the Hamas terrorist group Ismail Haniyeh told mediators from Qatar and Egypt that the group had accepted their proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after almost seven months of war.
This was reported by Barron's with reference to AFP.
It is noted that Ismail Haniyeh spoke on the phone with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egyptian Intelligence Minister Abbas Kamel "and informed them of Hamas's approval of their proposal regarding a ceasefire agreement." However, a senior Hamas official emphasized that "this does not mean that the ceasefire has come into effect yet," noting that "the Israeli side has not yet communicated its position."
"The ball is now in the court of the Israeli army, whether it will agree to the ceasefire agreement or obstruct it"the official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the negotiations.
Hamas's statement came after Israel on Monday called on Palestinians to leave eastern Rafah before a ground invasion of the southern Gaza city. In Rafah, where civilians were unsure of how to deal with the evacuation order, the news was greeted with joy, cheers and and shooting in the air.
Earlier, Apostrophe reported that the Israeli army has used a naval analog of the Iron Dome.
