A unique Neo-Renaissance building is falling into disrepair in Kyiv: photo

There are many architectural buildings in Kyiv that could attract thousands of tourists or be used for their intended purpose - instead, they are abandoned. One of them is the unique "house of a thousand windows" and the abandoned palace of the former Bacteriological Institute.

This is reported on the Facebook page "Spraga: it is interesting in Kyiv".

The building is located at 9 Mykola Amosova Street in Solomianskyi District of the capital.

"Located in the heart of the city, on Baikova Hill, the building impresses with its majestic appearance. Built at the expense of Ukrainian patrons, it is made in the Neo-Renaissance style and decorated with rich decor," the statement said.

It is noted that the Bacteriological Institute in Kyiv was built in the late XIX century. It is an outstanding architectural heritage, which is currently empty and gradually deteriorating. In 1928, the institute was transformed into a Virology Institute, and the old building was no longer used. Since then, it began to lose its former appearance.

The two-story building survived the Civil War and two world wars. But despite the terrible consequences, it was protected and repaired. The building should be a decoration of the city and a vivid example of its era, but instead it is gradually "dying."

For some time, the building was passed to various companies that pledged to repair it. However, this never happened.
