The security service detained a resident of unrecognized Transnistria who, on behalf of the GRU, was trying to obtain secret Ukrainian developments in the field of unmanned systems.
This is reported by the SBU.
The SBU says that the spy's task was to recruit a Defense Forces serviceman who works with drones. The GRU agent hoped to obtain technical documentation for the latest Ukrainian strike and reconnaissance UAVs through him. His supervisor was the "Deputy Minister of Defense of Transnistria," who cooperates with the Russian GRU.
The Security Service reportedly caught the man as soon as he arrived in Ukraine under the guise of an entrepreneur allegedly importing Ukrainian food products. The spy was caught red-handed when he tried to obtain a flash drive with secret information in the field of UAVs. He planned to take it to the unrecognized Transnistria to establish his own production of combat drones for Russia.
The man is in custody. He faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
