On Thursday, March 20, an explosion occurred near a shopping mall in Rivne. There are injuries as a result.
The National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) are currently working at the scene, and the explosions themselves have been classified as a terrorist act, according to the press service of the police and the Rivne Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Law enforcement officials say the explosion occurred at around 1:40 p.m. on Kyivska Street.
It was previously established that an improvised explosive device (IED) transported in a vehicle exploded near one of the city's shopping malls.
The driver and passenger were injured in the explosion and were hospitalized.
"Police explosives technicians examined the area. An investigative and operational group was working on the scene. Comprehensive measures are underway to establish all the circumstances of the explosion and the persons involved in it," the police noted.
Meanwhile, under the procedural leadership of the Rivne Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into criminal proceedings on the fact of a terrorist act and illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives.
