Ukrainian journalist Denys Kazanskyi published a photo of the current appearance of the Shakhtar stadium in temporarily occupied Donetsk.
The journalist shared the photos on his Telegram channel.
"Donetsk. Shakhtar Stadium. We used to come here with friends to watch football... During the 11 years of Russian peace, a whole forest has grown at the stadium," Kazansky signed the post.
Before the Russian occupation, the stadium looked like this:
The Shakhtar Central Stadium was built back in 1936.
On October 15, 1995, the stadium was the scene of the murder of influential Donetsk figure Akhat Bragin. After Bragin's murder, the stadium housed a radio market.
In 2000, the facility was renovated and individual plastic seats were installed, the arena's capacity was 31,718 seats.
Until 2004, the stadium was the home arena of the Shakhtar football club. In 2004, Shakhtar moved to the Olimpiyskyi Stadium.
Later, Shakhtar-2, Shakhtar-3, and Shakhtar's youth and youth (U-19) teams played at the stadium.
After the occupation of Donetsk by Russian invaders in 2014, the stadium remains empty and has suffered damage.
It is worth adding that this stadium should not be confused with the Donbas Arena, which was built in Donetsk by businessman Rinat Akhmetov.
By the way, the bodies of Russian servicemen in temporarily occupied Donetsk are stored in refrigerators intended for fish.
