There was a familiarity in President Volodymyr Zelensky's statement about the death of F-16 fighter pilot Pavel Ivanov.
Ukrainian journalist Anastasia Fedchenko noted this on Facebook.
She emphasized the inadmissibility of calling a combat officer who died while protecting Cain by the simple word "guy" in official communication.
"Not a guy, but a warrior, an officer, a pilot. A defender deserves respect from the head of state, not familiarity. These are not official communications, this is who knows what. He may be a guy for the commander, his comrades, his neighbors, but not for the president," the post says.
In his statement, the head of state announced the death of F-16 pilot Pavel Ivanov and expressed condolences to his family.
The head of state did not specify the military rank of the deceased, calling him simply a young man and emphasizing that he was only 26 years old.
"Today, in combat on an F-16, unfortunately, Captain Pavlo Ivanov was killed. The guy was 26 years old. My condolences to the family, to all of Pavlo's brothers... Reports from the military regarding this combat situation were necessary. We are clarifying all the circumstances," the message says.
