During one of the battles, an air defense unit under the command of Kirill Peretyatko shot down 11 Russian missiles in two minutes with the NASAMS air defense system.
This was stated by the commander of the division, Hero of Ukraine Kyrylo Peretyatko, in a video from the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the commander, the military is ready to do this constantly to knock out the enemy.
"In one air battle, we shot down 11 cruise missiles. We probably broke all the records of other countries in reloading speed. And we are ready to do this constantly to defend our country - if there were missiles," Peretyatko said.
And he added that currently the NASAMS air defense system is very effective. And the unit has already destroyed over 150 enemy targets: mainly cruise missiles, but also other destroyed targets.
"An enemy air strike is being carried out, a large number of missiles are flying, our radar detects these targets, we select the launchers that will carry out the shelling, we launch, the targets are assigned, we report on the results," Peretyatko explained.
In addition, the radar performed very well in various weather conditions during defensive operations. Combat work is always conducted by three people - a combat control officer, an assistant combat control officer, and a commander.
The complex can also operate in automatic, semi-automatic and manual modes, the commander specified. Ukrainian soldiers always operate in manual mode, because the human factor is always the main one.
As is known, the NASAMS air defense system is designed to destroy aerodynamic targets, such as airplanes, helicopters, cruise missiles of various modifications, and unmanned aerial vehicles. However, it is not designed to work on ballistic targets. This is one of the first complexes that was transferred to Ukraine by partners in the fall of 2022 and which began to work effectively to protect cities and critical infrastructure.
