Archaeologists have found dragonfly fossil that is about 165 million years old - it was discovered in northern China in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The discovery is considered the most complete fossil of this insect species discovered so far.

It is reported by CGTN.

The dragonfly found in the fossil belongs to the species Kidaneuthemis ningchengensis from the family Euthemistidae. These flying insects lived in the Middle Jurassic period and were distinguished by thin sickle-shaped wings, dense and numerous long veins, and thin patterned bodies.

Chinese scientists claim that the fossil found in Inner Mongolia is the most complete preservation of the Euthemistidae family found so far. The researchers hope that the study of this find will help to obtain important new information about the evolution of dragonflies from the Euthemistidae family and processes in their habitat in past eras.
