Despite the mythologized narrative of Soviet propaganda about the "victory of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War", historical facts show: without the help of the United States, without the stability of the Ukrainian front, and without strategic pressure from Britain, victory in World War II was generally unattainable for the USSR, and it would have happened solely thanks to the efforts of the Allies, who would have had to liberate the occupied parts of the Soviet Union from the Nazis.
USA: Lend-Lease and the Economy of Victory
Without the Lend-Lease program, the USSR would have had neither fuel nor mobile rear.
At least 427 thousand trucks, 2 thousand locomotives, tens of thousands of tons of aviation fuel, aluminum, non-ferrous metals and food products - this is not "aid", but the material basis of the front.
Half of the Soviet bread in 1943–1945 was American wheat. Most of the steel armor plates for Soviet T-34 tanks were supplied from the United States. And even the uniforms for soldiers, including boots, in many divisions were made in the United States or Canada. This is not an exaggeration - these are dry calculations of the logistics of war.
Ukraine: the blood and backbone of the Soviet front
In the war against the Nazis, 8 to 10 million Ukrainians died - more than the citizens of any other republic of the USSR.
60% of Soviet divisions were formed or manned by Ukrainians. Ukraine became the scene of the fiercest battles - from the defense of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donbass to the Battle of Stalingrad, where thousands of Ukrainians fought.
After the liberation of the territory of Ukraine, it was the Ukrainian infrastructure - railways, factories, collective farms - that became the basis of the Soviet rear. It was here that equipment repairs were established, new armies were formed, and logistics worked. And it was the Ukrainians who participated in the final assault on the Third Reich and played an important role in the Berlin operation. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians stormed Berlin.
Great Britain
When Britain refused to surrender in the 1940s, it thwarted Hitler's plan to concentrate all its forces against the USSR. In 1941–1942, more than 40% of German air and naval resources were forced to remain in the West. And all because of the constant threat of invasion or bombing.
The Royal Air Force was the first to inflict significant damage on Hitler in the rear.
Britain and the Allies inflicted heavy losses on the Germans and their allies in North Africa. It was the British who provided the intelligence, which often reached Moscow through direct cooperation with the Allies.
Without the USA, Moscow would have no resources. Without Ukraine, there would be no army. Without Britain, Hitler would not have been distracted by the West. The myth of the "independent victory of the USSR" and the Russians is a political construct created to assert Moscow's post-war hegemonism. The real history of World War II is the history of global resistance, in which Ukraine's contribution was blood and strength.
Putin constantly lies. And it is very good that US President Trump has now publicly emphasized the key role of the US in the victory over Nazism.
