There is a plan B: Shmygal tells what will happen to Ukrainian gas transportation system after the termination of gas transit from Russia

Ukraine is negotiating with the EU on the transit of Russian gas after 2024. But even if an agreement is not reached, Ukraine will use the gas transportation system for its own purposes.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal emphasized this at a press conference.

"As for transit. Of course, we are not going to negotiate with the aggressor country to extend and sign the agreement," Shmyhal said.

At the same time, the Prime Minister spoke about negotiations on European platforms, with EU leaders on the basis of the European Commission.

"If European countries act as a consortium or one of the European partners acts as a transit country for their own gas, we are ready to provide such a service, as we have done so far. That is, the initiative here is on the side of the EU and our partners," Shmyhal said.

According to him, if no decision is made, Ukraine will use the gas transportation system for its own purposes.

"We definitely have a plan B, the system will not be lost. Our country needs it and we have other opportunities to use it, including for transit," he said.
