US President Donald Trump's decision to impose massive tariffs on trading partners will not only have serious changes in global trade. It is likely that Americans themselves will pay the highest price.
This is written by MP Iryna Gerashchenko.
According to her, Nina Yuzhanina, a People's Deputy of Ukraine, a member of the VRU Committee on Finance, predicts that this means not only serious changes in world trade.
"Not only will there be less "foreign" in America, but also less American in the world. This process is now long-term. Now much depends on the quick reactions of the EU, China, and other powerful players," the post says.
"First of all, the Americans themselves will pay more," recalls Gerashchenko. " Because the import duty will all go into the price of goods for Americans."
Regarding the idea of abandoning imported goods because they are expensive, he points out that this is impossible: "Firstly, markets have long been global, and secondly, there are, for example, already purchased goods, machinery, equipment, and machines that require maintenance. And this creates a longer period for abandoning imports."
Among the points of serious possible changes, it also indicates:
"Everything may end in a collapse of the markets in America. That is, it can be predicted that the benefits to the United States itself will be less than the harm. Such aggressive intervention in the economy is a blow to the targeted part of production (i.e., a minus for the budget of the producing country), it is a search for new markets for those who will hold out. And for the rest - gradual transformations."
According to the chosen one, the world has entered a zone of terrible turbulence: "Unfortunately, this distracts attention from the war and is bad for Ukraine. The Kremlin is having fun, perfect chaos is their element...".
Recall that earlier, US President Donald Trump, promising that reciprocal tariffs would apply to all countries, not just a smaller group of 10-15 countries with the largest trade imbalance, called it "Liberation Day."
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko also commented on the introduction of new tariffs from the US. In her opinion, it will be difficult, but not critical.
