Thanks to archival photographs, you can not only see what Khreshchatyk looked like in the late XIX century, but also learn what the streets of your favorite city were like before it was built up with high-rise buildings. In particular, there used to be a cozy park on the site of the famous Dnipro Hotel.
The photo was published on the Facebook page "Club of Native Kyivan".
"1950s. A cozy park, where the Dnipro Hotel will be built in the future," the post reads.
The photo shows paths, beautifully decorated flower beds, a tram, and people walking around Kyiv.
It is worth noting that the Dnipro Hotel was built in 1964 at the beginning of Khreshchatyk, on European Square, next to government offices, the Dynamo Stadium, the National Philharmonic, and the picturesque Khreshchatyi Park. The restaurant at the Dnipro Hotel has an interior and design developed by architect Irma Karakis.
Currently, it is a four-star hotel that was under the legal jurisdiction of the State Administration of Affairs until July 2020. In 2020, it was sold to the Ukrainian private company Smartland LLC for UAH 1.111 billion. The starting price was UAH 80.9 million.
Dnipro Hotel has 186 comfortable rooms with 288 beds. The hotel offers restaurants (Ukrainian and European cuisine), a bar, a service desk, a business center, meeting rooms, conference rooms, a SPA center, and car rental.
Earlier, we published photo of a 19th-century house at Zlatoustivska Street, which was demolished in 1985.
