"Barriers have been removed": Russia has announced a plan to issue 500 thousand of Russian passports for Donbas residents

The Russian Federation has announced a plan to issue another 500 thousand Russian passports to the residents of Donbas by the end of 2021. An akin statement was made by Viktor Vodolatsky, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, as was reported by TASS.

According to by Viktor Vodolatsky, currently there currently 538 thousand Russian citizens living in Donbas.

"According to forecasts, by the end of this year, up to 1 million residents of Donbas will become citizens of the Russian Federation... At the beginning (of the issuance of Russian passports, - ed.) there were certain difficulties, problems, people just did not know and did not understand where to go, in which way to go. As of today, all bureaucratic barriers have been removed, and there is a big active process of obtaining Russian citizenship in Donbas," Volodatsky stated.
