Lithuania will donate 200,000 COVID-19 vaccine shots to its eastern European neighbours, including 100,000 to Ukraine, the government said on Friday.
“Action is the real solidarity,” Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said, announcing that AstraZeneca vaccines would be donated.
The vaccines will be distributed by Oct. 1, mostly between July and September, when Lithuania expects to have a surplus.
“As good as our word: Lithuanian government just confirmed 200.000 vaccines to Eastern Partnership countries. Starting with Ukraine - 100k vaccines, Georgia - 15k and Moldova - 11k. Small step by Lithuania, hopefully our partners in Europe will join in solidarity with many more!” Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergistweeted.
With this, the shots will go to so-called EU Eastern Partnership countries, including 15,000 to Georgia and 11,000 to Moldova, the government said. Distribution of the remaining 74,000 doses will be decided later. The Eastern Partnership also includes Belarus, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
