Visit to Kyiv and the war in Donbas: what was touched upon during Zelensky’s conversation with the Pope

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation with the Pope. The conversation was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the visit of St. John Paul II to Ukraine.

This was reported by the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky and the Pope discussed the war in eastern Ukraine. The war already killed 14 thousand people, and 1.5 million more were forced to leave their homes.

"We look forward to engaging with the Holy See and your support in bringing peace to Donbas. The support of the the international community and spiritual leaders is extremely important," Zelensky said, according to the presidential press service.

The President also renewed the invitation to Pope Francis to visit Ukraine and thanked the Holy See for his constant prayers for peace and tranquility in Ukraine.

"During the conversation, it was noted that nowadays Ukraine is a country where representatives of all religions coexist peacefully and feel comfortable. There are no distinct interfaith conflicts in the state and there is almost no speculation on the topic of faith," the message reads.
