During a working visit to Georgia, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky observed the security situation on the occupation line along the administrative border with the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia (Georgia). This was reported by the press service of the Office of the President.

Zelinsky walked along the Ingur Bridge, which is currently the only checkpoint in the region.

During his visit to the Ingur Bridge, the President of Ukraine talked with representatives of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia. According to Head of the Mission Marek Schiegel, the work of the checkpoint was limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, local residents experienced significant difficulties. In particular, school teachers were not able to get home. Now the traffic across the bridge is resumed, and every day up to 2,000 people cross this checkpoint.

At the same time, the self-proclaimed "authorities" of Abkhazia and South Ossetia deny access to the occupied territory of Georgia for the Mission.

The President noted that during his visit to the Abastumani monitoring point he had the opportunity to see the occupation of part of the country's sovereign territory.

"Russia's military presence is growing in Abkhazia, citizens' rights are being violated," Volodymyr Zelensky said.

The President stressed that Ukraine and Georgia are united in their initiatives to return the temporarily occupied territories within the leading international and regional organizations.

The President assured that Ukraine and Georgia are friendly states and strategic partners who mutually support each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty, so they will work together to deoccupy their territories and realize their aspirations.
