The Lower House of Congress adopted an amendment that allows the imposition of sanctions against Nord Stream 2, the construction of which is planned to be completed this summer.
Thus, the congressmen supported the State Department's funding bill for 2022, Bloomberg Government journalist Jack Fitzpatrick tweeted.
“House passes State Dept. funding bill 217-212, including measures that would block Biden's waiver authority for Nord Stream 2 sanctions, withhold military financing for Azerbaijan, ban officials from buying/displaying flags that show Taiwan as part of China,” Jack Fitzpatrick tweeted, adding, “Reps. Cori Bush, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib cross party lines to vote no”.
The adoption of the bill was supported by 217 congressmen, 212 opposed. Among other things, the bill provides for the introduction of a measure blocking the waiver authority of U.S. President Joe Biden for sanctions against Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
We would like to remind you that on July 1, the Committee on Appropriations of the U.S. House of Representatives approved this amendmentto the draft law on foreign expenditures of the federal government.
The initiative concerning the 2022 fiscal year was introduced by Democratic Congressman Marcy Kaptur.
"We expect the presidential administration to listen to our signal and make European energy security a priority issue," she commented on her step.
Now the decision must be considered by the entire House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate before it is signed by Biden.
As "Apostrophe" reported, Senator Pat Toomey and 11 Republicans from the Senate Banking Committee demanded U.S. President Joe Biden's administration to impose new sanctions against the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.Otherwise, they threaten to block the approval of two candidates for senior positions in the Ministry of Finance.
