In the next 3-5 years, there are no prospects for Ukraine's membership in the European Union.
This was stated by the Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, this is unlikely to be implemented due to the political situation in the EU. There is no consensus in the European Union on further expansion of the supranational organization. Therefore the uncertainty of further accession applies not only to Ukraine but also to other countries willing to become the EU member-states.
"There really isn't such a consensus right now. Negotiations are underway with those countries with which the process of accession was launched many years ago," said Dombrovskis, referring to the Balkan states.
The politician advises to keep this issue on the agenda, but at the moment it is necessary to focus on maximizing the opportunities provided by the association agreement for Ukraine.
We would like to remind you that on June 28,the Council of the European Union agreed to sign a Common Aviation Area Agreement with Ukraine.
