Zelensky arrived in the United States: what's on the agenda

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the First Lady of Ukraine Elena Zelenska arrived in Washington as part of the working visit of the Head of State to the United States.

This was reported by the Office of the President.

The president of Ukraine arrived at the invitation of the U.S. President Joseph Biden.

According to the White House, the visit will confirm the US’ support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s ongoing aggression in the Donbas and Crimea as well as the close cooperation of the two countries on energy security. It is stressed that the US supports Zelensky’s efforts on fighting corruption and implementing reforms.

The agenda of the visit includes a one-on-one meeting of the leaders of the two countries and an expanded number of delegations.

Initially, it was anticipated that Biden would receive Zelensky at the White House on August 30. The Ukrainian president stated that he expected a substantive and productive meeting with the American leader. Later, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba reported that the meeting had been moved up from August 30 to August 31 due to an expanded program of the Ukrainian leader’s visit to the US.

On Sunday, it was reported that the meeting had been moved from August 31 to September 1.

In addition, during his working visit Zelensky will meet several American officials. Representatives of Ukraine and the United States are expected to sign several agreements.

The visit program is designed for several days and will cover a number of cities on the East and West Coasts of the United States.
