On Monday, October 11, Kremlin-friendly MP Viktor Medvedchuk was handed an arrest warrant with an alternative to post a bail of UAH 1 billion. The Opposition Platform - For Life MP is currently under house arrest, his colleague in the faction Renat Kuzmin has said.
"Medvedchuk has just been handed an arrest warrant or an alternative of posting a UAH 1 billion bail. This is despite the fact that Medvedchuk is already under house arrest, he does not violate it, and according to the law, the court simply cannot change his measure of restraint to a more severe one," Kuzmin wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.
It's worth noting that Viktor Medvedchuk is suspected of treason and assistance to a terrorist organization under the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the MP tried to undermine Ukraine's energy independence by obstructing the purchase of coal in South Africa through his connections in the country's top leadership after Russia had occupied a part of the Donbas.
