US Congress is preparing a "surprise" for Johnson: collecting signatures for new petition will start tomorrow

The US Congress may start collecting signatures to put the bill on assistance to Ukraine to a vote in the House of Representatives, bypassing Speaker Mike Johnson, as early as March 8.

This was stated by Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick.

"This is an attempt to apply pressure to force something to the voting floor. If the House of Representatives cannot reach a consensus on the bill, then the alternative cannot be that Ukraine is defeated and our border remains open. We cannot allow this to happen," he said.

Fitzpatrick noted that he is working with Johnson's office to bring the package to the House of Representatives through regular channels, but if he refuses to comply, supporters of the bill will begin collecting signatures for a petition on March 8, to bring the bill to the floor, bypassing the House Speaker.

The Congressman expressed confidence that they can get the 218 signatures needed for approval.
