The Czech Republic will allocate tens of millions of euros as part of its own initiative to purchase ammunition for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to Reuters, this was announced by Prime Minister Petr Fiala on CNN.
He said that the Czech contribution to the purchase of shells would amount to hundreds of millions of crowns, which is equal to tens of millions of euros.
"This roughly corresponds to the share that a country of our size and prosperity should put in," Fiala said.
It is noted that about 18 countries have already supported Prague's initiative. Germany has promised to allocate the most money, 576 million EUR, to purchase a share of the promised 800,000 shells.
These funds should be enough for 180 thousand artillery shells.
The first deliveries of ammunition, which were found in various countries outside the European Union, are expected by June.
As you know, at the Munich Security Conference (MSC), Czech President Petr Pavel announced the possibility of purchasing 800,000 rounds of ammunition for Ukraine from non-EU countries. He called on the Allies to join the initiative with funding. More than ten countries announced their readiness to make contributions. The 800,000 rounds of ammunition are to be purchased within a year. It was expected that the ammunition under this scheme would arrive at the front in June.
