Chinese leader makes statement on the war in Ukraine

During his visit to France, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China is playing an active role in achieving peace in Ukraine. He noted that Beijing is "in favor of holding an International Peace Conference at an appropriate time, recognized by both Russia and Ukraine, which ensures equal participation of all parties and a fair discussion of all peace plans."

This was reported by Radio Liberty.

French President Emmanuel Macron, together with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who attended part of the talks with Xi Jinping in Paris, called on the Chinese President to use his influence on Moscow to end Russia's war against Ukraine.

Later in May, Xi will host Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing. However, during the talks in Paris, the Chinese President did not express any clear intentions regarding Beijing's pressure on Moscow. Xi limited himself to a general wish for peace.

During the talks, Macron also urged Xi to prevent the export of any technology that could be used by Russia against Ukraine.

Emmanuel Macron assured Xi Jinping that France is not at war with Russia and does not seek to overthrow Putin's government. At the same time, as the French President said, without Ukraine's security, there can be no European security.
