Biden will not attend the Peace Summit in Switzerland: the reason is given

The US President Joe Biden is likely to skip the Peace Summit in Switzerland on June 15-16, 2024.

Bloomberg reports, citing a source.

As noted, it conflicts with a campaign fundraiser in California. The American leader is expected to attend it along with stars George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and others.

It is known that Switzerland plans to hold a Conference in mid-June after the G7 meeting in Italy. Several G7 leaders intend to join, but the US President and Vice President are not planning to attend.

Biden is expected to travel from the G7 meeting in southern Italy to Los Angeles for a fundraiser on June 15. Along with the stars, he will be joined by former President Barack Obama and TV host Jimmy Kimmel.

"The decision underscores how Biden is further shifting into campaign mode as he looks to overcome former President Donald Trump’s polling lead in key swing states ahead of the November election. Adding to the urgency, Trump eclipsed Biden’s fundraising efforts for the first time in the current election cycle last month, raising $76 million to his $51 million," the agency writes.

At the same time, representatives of about 70 countries of various levels are planning to attend the Summit. In particular, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is likely to be there too. The presence of China is 'questionable'.
