Germany makes a loud statement on Ukraine's accession to the EU

German officials stated that on its way to joining the EU, Ukraine has fulfilled all the basic requirements needed to start accession negotiations, and therefore called for "a quick agreement on the negotiating framework."

German Minister of State for Europe Anna Lührmann told the dpa news agency.

She pointed out that Ukraine, in the opinion of the German government, has already fulfilled all the basic requirements to start negotiations on accession to the EU:

"In the view of the German government, Ukraine fulfils all requirements to be able to open EU accession negotiations in June."

In view of this, she called on other EU representatives to agree on the issue of negotiations:

"We are therefore urging all member states to quickly agree on the negotiating framework."

It is noted that EU leaders in December agreed to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU. However, according to the dpa report, most recent commission report revealed that Ukraine could not implement some reforms, in particular those related to corruption and minority protection.

However, the report also mentions that EU ambassadors are planning a meeting next week, probably to discuss a potential negotiation framework, which is an important condition for the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU. It is noted that only Hungary is seen as a potential obstacle.

Earlier, we reported that Germany transferred a new military aid package to Ukraine.
