The Office of the President of Ukraine welcomed Germany's decision to confiscate the cargo of the Panamanian-flagged tanker Eventin from Russia's "shadow fleet".
This was announced by the presidential advisor on sanctions, Vladyslav Vlasyuk, on Facebook.
Vlasyuk noted that this is a tanker that was found drifting off the northern coast of the country in January 2025.
"The vessel is believed to be part of the 'shadow fleet' that Russia uses to circumvent oil sanctions. The Panamanian-flagged tanker Eventin was taken under control by German maritime services after being spotted near the island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea," he noted.
According to the issued confiscation order, the ship, along with a cargo of about 100,000 tons of oil worth about 40 million euros, will become the property of Germany.
Vlasyuk welcomed this step, noting that the Ukrainian side has made a lot of efforts to combat Russia's circumvention of international sanctions.
"They can! Determination is very good. We have a lot of work to do," the presidential advisor added.
As reported by Der Spiegel, the German government has decided to take tough measures against a vessel from the Russian "shadow fleet", with the help of which the Russian authorities sell oil around the world, bypassing sanctions.
The publication notes that before this, discussions were underway between various ministries on what to do with the tanker, which was heading from the Russian port of Ust-Luga through the Baltic Sea to Egypt. Now the authorities are deciding how and where to safely pump the oil from the tanker and what to do with the vessel.
As "Apostrophe" wrote, the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, had previously appealed to Europe to impose sanctions against the Russian "tanker fleet".
