The US President's special representative for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, should be removed from participating in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, since the politician called the four Ukrainian regions the biggest problem in resolving the war, referring to the so-called Russian "referendums."
This opinion was expressed by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy, Oleksandr Merezhko, on Radio Liberty.
The politician called Witkoff's statements "shameful" and added that he doesn't know the obvious and basic things he should understand.
"I don't know what it's about - ignorance, naivety, or unprofessionalism. He's relaying Russian propaganda. And I have a question: is he a Trump emissary or maybe he's a Putin emissary?" Merezhko asked.
At the same time, the most dangerous, in the opinion of the People's Deputy, are Witkoff's words that he allegedly expresses the opinion of the US president himself. Therefore, Merezhko reminds that previously the US adhered to a policy of non-recognition of the attempted annexation and occupation of Ukrainian territories.
"It is clear that we cannot dictate to our American friends who should represent them. But this person should be removed from this delegation. She should not be the president's representative, as she is either completely unprofessional or simply repeats Putin's narratives," the Committee Chairman clarified.
As a reminder, earlier, Vitkoff stated that residents of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia regions allegedly voted in "referendums" to join Russia.
Later, after these loud statements by the Trump administration about the "Russian-speaking territories of Ukraine" and the elections, the States were instead offered a corresponding list of actions that should be taken with their territories.
And later, the US President's special envoy explained his statement regarding the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia.
