Space troops, satellites and more: Ministry of Defense launches Space Policy Office

In Ukraine, a Space Policy Office has been created, designed to unite state and private companies and space scientists for cooperation with the Ukrainian military.

This was reported by Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization Kateryna Chernogorenko on Facebook.

She noted that this was announced during the Space For Ukraine forum.

The Office is expected to create a legislative framework, be a center for technical expertise, and become a coordinator between all industry participants: engineers, innovators, developers, government institutions, and the scientific community.

Chernogorenko noted that space is important for Ukraine for several reasons. Among them:

  • Military communications - data will be transmitted instantly, which is important for understanding the operational situation.
  • Intelligence infrastructure - thanks to satellites, we will know about the enemy's plans.
  • Early warning of missile threats is important for the safety of the Ukrainian population.

Thus, the Ministry of Defense will form a policy in the field of military space. It will not only be about purchasing innovative solutions from engineers, but also about creating real space forces.

"We have a law on space activities, which says that the Ministry of Defense must form a policy in the field of military space. This is not only the procurement of innovative solutions from engineers, this is not only the creation of a community so that the best solutions come to Ukraine, but this is also the creation of space forces ," the representative of the Ministry of Defense said.

According to plans, by 2030, Ukraine will have national satellites for defense purposes, an air alert system, and space control, Chernogorenko added.

As Apostrophe previously wrote, the US chose intelligence data as the subject of blackmailing Ukraine on the issue of ending the war.
